Visit Paris in three days
Romantic, festive, cultural... Paris has many faces and is less than an hour and a half from Brussels by train. There are more than 20 Brussels-Paris trains each day: book the time slot that suits you and get yourself ready for your three-day city visit!
First day: visit the heart of the city
On the first day, start from the Place du Trocadéro, and go down through the gardens from the imposing esplanade to reach the Eiffel Tower. Built for the 1899 World's Fair, the tower has been the symbol of Paris ever since. The original ?Iron Lady' can be climbed using the stairs or the lift.
At its feet is the Champs de Mars, a large and shady public garden surrounded by the quiet, chic streets of the 7th arrondissement. Further on stands the golden dome of Les Invalides. A former military hospital built by Louis XV, it now houses the army museum and Napoleon's ashes. Then head towards the Seine and walk along the quays.
Your path will take you past the National Assembly, the Orsay museum and the Institute of France, home to the French Academy, before you arrive at the Pont des Arts. This pedestrian bridge is a must-see and is often regarded as the most romantic bridge in Paris. Take advantage of the proximity of the Île de la Cité to stroll around, and then go up to the Latin Quarter. The narrow streets leading up to the Pantheon are full of small restaurants and cafés where students have sat and put the world to rights for centuries. Lovers of world cuisine, you are sure to find something to enjoy for dinner.
Second day: right bank and north of Paris
On the second day, opt for the north of the capital and go to the Sacré-Coeur basilica and Montmartre from the Anvers Metro station. Take your time as you wander through this picturesque and timeless neighbourhood. Then go to the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées, the most famous avenue in the world with its luxury shops. You can choose whether to go shopping in the famous shops or simply to stroll around as the fancy takes you.
Turn at the roundabout on Avenue Winston Churchill: on either side are the Petit Palais and the Grand Palais, which house temporary exhibitions and are always interesting. You will arrive at the Alexandre III Bridge. Then go on alongside the Seine to the massive Place de la Concorde, dominated by the obelisk brought back from Egypt by Napoleon.
Immerse yourself in the Tuileries garden and enjoy its pond, broad tree-lined pathways, and the little kiosks scattered here and there where you can quench your thirst and nibble on a snack. There you can choose to stroll through the arcades of the Rue de Rivoli, discover the Place Vendôme with its jewellers and end up at the Paris Opera, the famous Palais Garnier.
Third day: museums and old Paris
On the third day, head for the Louvre Museum, its pyramid and its masterpieces. Take a little time beforehand to prepare for your visit and target the paintings you don't want to miss. You can easily spend a morning there.
A few Metro stations away is the Beaubourg Centre. Standing in the heart of old Paris, it houses collections and exhibitions entirely dedicated to contemporary art and is characterised by its unique architecture. The gigantic coloured pipes rub shoulders with 17th-century buildings. It is also a good starting point for visiting the Marais, the Place des Vosges and the Bastille. Cafes, small shops, falafel stalls, and famous pastry shops make this area lively and very popular with visitors.
It's a good place to eat or to shop if you want to bring back amusing and original souvenirs from Paris.
Don't delay: come and discover all this for yourself by booking your Brussels-Paris train ticket.
