A dream weekend in Brussels

Start your exploration of Brussels with the Grand-Place. A true theater or movie set, it is lined with 17th century facades of many different corporations: bakers, painters, brewers... There are nearly 40 different ones. It is also on this square that you will find the City Hall as well as the King's House, also known as the Broodhuis. This incredible neo-Gothic style building houses the Brussels City Museum. By visiting it, you will learn a lot about the history of the city through paintings, sculptures, engravings, and photos. You will also see a beautiful model of Brussels in the Middle Ages. Then go through the Sacred Island, the historic center of Brussels which has a great charm, and wander to the Saint-Hubert Galleries. It's the perfect place to bring back souvenirs and typical Brussels purchases.

A must-see attraction, you won't miss the very famous Manneken-Pis ("the peeing boy"). Built in 1619, the fountain features a small statue of a little boy dressed by the people of Brussels on fixed dates. Over time, he has worn hundreds of costumes, which are displayed at the Brussels City Museum. It's worth noting that there is also a female version, Jeanneke-Pis ("the peeing girl"), located in Impasse de la Fidélité. Depending on when you're in Brussels, you can visit the magnificent Royal Palace and some of its main rooms, such as the Throne Room, the Blue Room, or the Mirror Room.

Brussels also boasts several museums where you can spend an entire day. The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium are made up of several different spaces: the Museum of Ancient Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Constantin Meunier Museum, and the Antoine Wiertz Museum. In all, tens of thousands of works are exhibited. And to admire the most famous, head to the treasure room.

At the Magritte Museum, you can admire more than 200 works and archives. Continue on the path of the arts and visit the Belgian Comic Strip Center. With an international vocation, it has a permanent exhibition tracing the history of the 9th art and will appeal to fans of Tintin. Also note that in Brussels, chocolate and beer have their own museums!

Have you ever visited a miniature park? Mini-Europe park presents reproductions of the most famous monuments of the European Union, on a 1/25th scale. You can see more than 80 cities and no less than 350 houses. In front of the park stands the Atomium of Brussels. Built during the 1958 World Expo, this amazing monument represents the conventional iron crystal lattice, enlarged 165 billion times.

Your trip will allow you to bring back wonderful memories of your visits, but also to discover Belgian gastronomy. On the savory side, the choice is wide: stoemp is a mashed potatoes dish mixed with other vegetables such as Brussels sprouts and served with pork. Waterzooi, on the other hand, is a fish dish cooked in a vegetable broth to which a yolk of egg is added. Don't hesitate to try the Flemish beef stew and shrimp croquettes. On the sweet side, the inevitable Brussels waffles are waiting for you, as well as speculoos, many chocolates, and Greek bread: a bread covered with pearl sugar! Plan your trip and hop on your train to Brussels!
