Luggage spaces on board

  • You must be able to carry all your luggage in one go alone. After the boarding gates, only ticket holders are allowed on the platform.

    You can take either:

    • ​2 suitcases + 1 item of hand luggage
    • 1 suitcase + 1 special item of luggage + 1 item of hand luggage  ​

    Your hand luggage can measure a maximum of 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm

    Your suitcase can measure a maximum of 70 cm x 90 cm x 50 cm

    Your special item of luggage (musical instrument, covered bike, folded bike, scooter and folding wheelchair) can measure a maximum of 90 x 130 x 50 cm. Bikes, musical instruments, snowboards and skis must be in a labelled cover.

    You can travel with your own pair of skis (no maximum dimensions), up to a maximum of one pair per person.

    Failure to comply with the luggage policy on board TGV INOUI and INTERCITÉS trains may result in the payment of €50 for 1 item of excess or non-compliant luggage, €100 for 2 items of excess or non-compliant luggage, and €150 for 3 or more items of excess or non-compliant luggage. For more information, consult the SNCF Voyageurs passenger fares.

    All your luggage must be labelled and is your responsibility.

    • Your hand luggage or other small bags should be stored at your feet, under the seat in front of you or above your seat.
    • For your other, bulkier luggage: at the entrance or in the centre of your carriage, as well as in the free spaces on the floor between certain back-to-back seats. ​
    • For safety reasons, scooters and pushchairs must be stored in the lowest possible luggage spaces and not overhead.
    • Certain types of luggage are not accepted: dangerous, unusual, intended for trade, prohibited and those not listed above.
    • it is forbidden to charge the batteries of electric scooters and electric unicycles.

    For TGV INOUI trains to Europe

    These on-board luggage rules also apply to TGV INOUI trains to and from Luxembourg, Spain, Brussels and Freiburg im Breisgau.

    For TGV INOUI trains to and from Italy, the maximum dimensions of 130 x 90 cm per item of luggage must be respected. The rules on special luggage, unauthorised luggage and luggage storage are the same for all TGV INOUI trains.

  • You must be able to carry all your luggage yourself without assistance. The maximum dimensions of 130 x 90 cm per item of luggage must be respected.

    The rules on special luggage, unauthorised luggage and luggage storage are the same for all TGV INOUI trains.

  • Take everything you need with you, with no restrictions on the number of items of luggage, as long as you can carry and store them yourself. Each item of luggage must not exceed the maximum dimensions of 130 x 90 cm. The rules concerning prohibited luggage and its storage are the same for all TGV INOUI trains.

    For special items of luggage authorised on board:

    • Bikes must be folded or their wheels removed and stored in covers measuring no more than 130 cm x 90 cm;
    • Pushchairs must be folded;
    • Skis must be stored in a cover, with a maximum of one pair of skis per passenger;
    • Scooters, whether electric or not, must be folded or disassembled;
    • Wakeboards and snowboards must be stored in a cover measuring no more than 130 cm x 90 cm;
    • Musical instruments must be stored in a case measuring no more than 130 cm x 90 cm. Among bulky musical instruments, only the double bass is allowed on board. It must be placed in a soft case and tagged, with a maximum dimension of 1.95 meters (76.77 inches). Before boarding, the musician must report to the train manager.

    People with reduced mobility may keep their manual or electric wheelchairs with them, whether or not they remain in their wheelchairs during the journey.

  • Travel light and practical on TER trains!

    No size limit for your baggage!  You can take your luggage with you with no size restrictions.

    Just make sure you can handle it yourself and store it in the dedicated spaces on board.

    Your belongings must not represent a danger to other passengers or staff.

    Reserving a bicycle on TER trains:

    In some regions, an additional reservation is required, according to local conditions. Check the specific conditions for your region before your journey by consulting the TER terms and conditions for bikes.

    On most TER trains, bicycles are accepted suspended or placed in a dedicated space. Spaces are accessible subject to availability.

  • Your train ticket includes one item of cabin luggage (55 x 35 x 25 cm) with no weight limit and one item of hand luggage (40 x 30 x 15 cm).

    If you have an additional or bulky item of luggage (maximum 130 x 90 x 50 cm and weighing no more than 30 kg), you will need to add the luggage option for €5 per item at the time of booking or after-sales up to 30 minutes before departure.

    Please note: If you have not added the option online, and you arrive directly at the station with an additional or bulky item of luggage, you will be charged €20 per item of luggage on the spot.

  • There are no weight restrictions, but you must be able to carry all your luggage yourself. The number of items of luggage allowed depends on your ticket:

    • Eurostar Standard and Eurostar Plus: 2 items of luggage + 1 item of hand luggage
    • Eurostar Premier: 3 items of luggage + 1 item of hand luggage

    The maximum length of your luggage must not exceed 85 cm for journeys to England and 75 cm for journeys to Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Items you can take as hand luggage include backpacks, handbags, briefcases and computer bags.

    On board, store your luggage in the spaces provided:

    • Luggage rack above the seats.
    • Luggage spaces at the end of each carriage for your bulkier items of luggage;
    • Free spaces on the floor between certain back-to-back seats.

    Transporting your pushchair is free of charge. Fold it and put it in the storage spaces in the same carriage as your seat.

    Do you have additional or bulky items of luggage?

    To travel with your bike, an additional or bulky item of luggage, specific terms and conditions apply:

    For journeys to and from London: you must book a dedicated space 48 hours before your train's departure at an additional cost. Each item must weigh no more than 30 kg, and there are maximum dimensions to be respected depending on the type of luggage. To book your dedicated space, go to your booking and then click on "Request additional luggage".

    For your journeys to Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany: no need to book in advance, you will be charged €30 per additional item of luggage on the day of travel. There is no weight limit, but maximum dimensions must be respected depending on the type of luggage.

Labelling your luggage

Your luggage is your responsibility and must be labelled.

Indeed, your luggage must be identifiable. For example, if you forget your luggage at the station or on the train, it may be destroyed if it is not identified. If it is labelled, you increase your chances of finding your belongings.

Just write your surname, first name, postal address, telephone number and/or e-mail address.
