Versailles seduces crowds with its royal palace, fountains and gardens. Located at the south-west of Paris, the charming village, created according to the wishes of the Sun King, benefits from a typically Parisian climate. The most famous site in the city, the Palace of Versailles is home to a rich architectural heritage. And you, are you more of the Hall of Mirrors or the Queen's Hamlet?

Versailles can be visited throughout the year. The high season runs from spring to fall, but it's summer when the crowds flock to Versailles. Spring and fall are a great time to visit museums and the palace. In June, a popular theater festival, the Mois Molière, takes place. It brings together the big names in the theater and offers nearly 250 shows.

Before the Palace of Versailles was commissioned by Louis XIV, the land was occupied by a small hunting lodge reserved for the royal family. To escape a smallpox epidemic raging in the Louvre, the young king and his brother took refuge here. This was also the case ten years later, during the Fronde. Louis's many visits later gave him the idea of settling there and making it his own palace, even more beautiful than the Louvre.
