To experience the most eagerly awaited event of the year by the banks of the Rhône, head to the beautiful city of Lyon, which can for a day proudly be known as: the city of lights!
By way of anecdote...
On December 8 each year, the residents of the Colline de Fourvière pay homage to the Virgin Mary. They light up their windows and balconies, and proceed through the streets carrying traditional tea lights.
The tradition spread from streets to neighbourhoods, and the religious festival became a global event.
An array of colours lights up every neighbourhood!
In the city’s every neighbourhood, artists create an array of colours, whimsical showpieces projected onto the walls of historic buildings, squares, the banks of the Rhône and more. Visitors enter various magical kaleidoscopes of colour. The cherry on the sundae is that this is a free event to which everyone is invited. Let’s go!
The Festival of Lights is as much a poetic, artistic event as it is a fun crowd-pleaser.
A place where artistry is born
The Festival of Lights in Lyon is the main place where artistry is born and displayed by lighting specialists, designers, visual artists, scenographers and others who craft artwork out of light in all its forms.
