In summer, Paris becomes a real hub for walkers, both tourists and Parisians alike. People stroll around all day. Make sure you’re wearing comfortable shoes as we take you on our top 3 Paris walks.
Here are our top 3 beautiful walks in Paris:
1. The Banks of the Seine as a family or with friends
Since its creation in the heart of Paris in June, 2013, the Banks of the Seine (Berges de Seine) has become a lively location where many people come to meet. Family and friends come together to enjoy the constantly evolving range of activities. You can stop for a rest in the zen areas or go for a stroll around the floating gardens. For the kids, why not encourage your young climbers to attempt the climbing wall set up under the Pont des Invalides, or celebrate their birthday in teepees (available to rent on the Berges website).
Adults can enjoy health and well-being classes such as yoga, boxing and fitness. For those who would prefer to have a wander around and make the most of the weather, there’s also the option of relaxing on one of the deckchairs of the cafés located along the river bank, or enjoying a game of petanque with friends.
2. Walk along the Coulée Verte
The Coulée Verte, also known as the Promenade Plantée (planted promenade), is a 4.5 km path which runs along the old Vincennes railway line, connecting Bastille to Vincennes. Why have we put the Coulée Verte in our top 3 walks? It is much less frequented, it allows you to escape the traffic and you get to see the city from a new, elevated perspective.
This walk passes through the Viaduc des Arts (Avenue Daumesnil). You’ll cross the Jardin Hector Malot underneath a canopy of maples. Nothing is stopping you from enjoying a short break here, lounging between fountains and pergola. The final part of the route to rejoin the Bois de Vincennes is also a bike path.
3. The atmosphere along the Canal Saint-Martin
Running over more than 4 km, the Canal Saint-Martin connects the Basin de la Villette to the Bassin de l'Arsenal. On summer evenings, everyone comes here to picnic and play music.
It’s almost like being in the countryside in Paris. Stop for a drink or a bite to eat on the terrace of this area’s unmissable trendy spot: Chez Prune. Alternatively, carry on a bit further from the river bank and you’ll come across Bob’s Juice Bar — a small and unpretentious eatery opened by a New Yorker.
Try the vitamin-imbued vegetable juice or the vegetarian rolls (futomaki). The soup and fruit juice served here are divinely fresh. It’s a great affordable spot to discover in this area. Finish off with a drink on the terrace of the Hôtel du Nord for an added sense of atmosphere!
