Remarkable monuments, theatres and concert halls reflect the buzz of Parisian life and its evolution through the centuries. A perfect way to discover Paris. It takes around 7 hours to get from Milan to Paris on the TGV INOUI Italy that leaves from Milano Porta Garibaldi station. Your Milan-Paris train is a direct line. It will arrive at Paris Gare de Lyon, an excellent set-off point to start your tour of the capital.

After getting off your train, head up Rue de Lyon to arrive at Place de la Bastille. From Gare de Lyon, you can also take metro Line 1 in the direction of La Défense and the Bastille is just one stop down the line.
This large square with a pedestrianised centre is home to the Opéra Bastille, with its modern architecture, and the Colonne Juillet, whose golden statue represents the "Genius of liberty". The Opéra was inaugurated in 1989 to mark the bicentenary of the French Revolution. From this square, you can easily reach Le Marais or the Arsenal district, a former trading port that's now a marina. Then head towards Palais-Royal, either up Rue Saint-Paul followed by Rue de Rivoli, or take metro Line 1 towards La Défense and get off at the Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre stop. Stroll past the Comédie Française. This Italian-style theatre is one of the most prestigious in France and the only one with a permanent troupe of actors. It was created by Louis XIV as a tribute to Molière, whose armchair from "Le Malade Imaginaire", the last play he performed, is still on display.
Next to the theatre you'll find the Palais-Royal Gardens , built by Richelieu for Louis XIII and lined with four arcades. These are now home to chic boutiques and restaurants such as the famous Grand Véfour, which opened its doors in 1784.

Afterwards, head up Rue Saint-Honoré to the La Madeleine quarter. You'll arrive at Rue Royale, where you can admire the Place de la Concorde on your left and the majestic Eglise de la Madeleine on your right. If you want a bit of peace and quiet, take a break at Ladurée, the tearoom that made the macaroon a globally famous treat.
Afterwards, branch off onto Boulevard des Capucines and walk past the Olympia. Opened at the end of the 19th century, it is the oldest music hall in Paris that still puts on shows. Inaugurated by the famous French can-can star, Goulue, it has hosted some of the biggest names in French music including Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Johnny Hallyday as well as famous international stars such as Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones.
Continue up Boulevard des Capucines towards the Opera and turn left into Rue Edouard VII to arrive in one of the most charming and perhaps one of the best-hidden squares in Paris: Place Edouard VII. You'll find a theatre made famous by Sacha Guitry, magnificent arcades that circle a cobbled courtyard, and plenty of places to eat before or after a show.
Finish your stroll around Paris by popping into one of the department stores that this city is famous for. Le Printemps and Galeries Lafayette are just a stone's throw away: if you cross the Opéra-Louis Jouvet square, you'll reach Rue Auber which is pretty much opposite the stores.
