Welcome to your mobility comparator

Make the right choice for your journeys

On SNCF Connect, you can compare your journeys at a glance according to different criteria. This mobility comparator gives you information on the environmental footprint, but also on the journey time and useful time of your journeys by train, bus, plane, thermal and electric car. This way you can make your choice and choose the means of transport that suits you best.

Result of your comparison

Compare easily a selection of 60 destinations according to 3 criteria:

  1. The environmental criterion: the quantity of greenhouse gases (CO2e) induced by your mode of transport (energy consumption, construction and maintenance of the vehicle)

  2. The travel time criterion: this is the average time you spend on board your mode of transport to get from point A to point B

  3. The useful time criterion: this is the time you have on board your mode of transport to go about your personal business

Now it's your turn !

To preserve the environment, we can all act on a daily basis with simple actions such as avoiding waste or consuming locally. But we can still go further by traveling by train as often as possible!

How is this data calculated?

This comparator allows you to compare a selection of 60 destinations according to 5 modes of transport (train, bus, car, carpooling and air) and 3 comparison criteria (the amount of CO2e emitted, the journey time and the useful time)

  • For long-distance train: Distance of the journey in kilometres x the CO2e emission factor of a passenger travelling one kilometre.
    • The emission factors for long, medium and short distance carriers are derived from the use, manufacture and maintenance of the vehicles, i.e. on average 4 gCO2e/km/passenger for the TGVs INOUI, OUIGO and INTERCITES operating in France; 34 gCO2e/km/passenger for TER.

  • For international trains: Trip distance in kilometres x CO2e emission factor of a passenger travelling one kilometre.
    • Emission factors for international carriers are derived from the use, manufacture, and maintenance of vehicles.

  • For long-distance buses: Distance of the journey in kilometres x the CO2e emission factor of a passenger travelling one kilometre.
    • The emission factor for long-distance buses is linked to the use, manufacture and maintenance of the vehicle from the carbon base, i.e. an average of 30gCO2e/km/passenger for traffic in France
    • (Source: Base Carbone® de l'ADEME /Carbone 4)

  • For aircraft: Data from the greenhouse gas emissions calculator of the French Civil Aviation Authority, this quantity is expressed in (kg CO2e/passenger equivalent).
    • The effects of condensation trails are taken into account. The CO2 emission factor for the aircraft is linked to the use, manufacture and maintenance of the vehicle, taken from the carbon base, i.e. on average 260gCO2e/km/passenger

  • For the electric car: Distance of the journey in kilometres x the CO2e emission factor of a passenger travelling one kilometre.
    • The emission factor of an electric car is linked to the use, manufacture and maintenance of the vehicle and is based on an occupancy of 2.2 passengers; i.e. an average of 47 gCO2e/km/passenger in France.
    • (Sources: Base Carbone® de l'ADEME)

  • For the thermal car: Distance of the journey in kilometres x the CO2e emission factor of a passenger travelling one kilometre.
    • The emission factor of a thermal car is linked to the use, manufacture and maintenance of the vehicle and is based on an occupancy of 2.2 passengers; i.e. an average of 105 gCO2e/km/passenger in France.
