Where to eat in Biarritz?

Biarritz offers very good gourmet eateries, especially around the market. To sample typical Basque tapas, have a drink and put the world to rights after going to the market, I recommend Bar Jean.

Address: 5 rue des Halles, 64200 Biarritz.

In the heart of Les Halles, the Café du Commerce welcomes you in with its bistro atmosphere. On the menu, you’ll find charming and delicious market cuisine. Give in to the boards of grilled squid and ‘grandmother’s cake’.

Address: 1 rue des Halles, 64200 Biarritz

Enter a 100% local restaurant at La Table Basque! As soon as you open the door you’ll see regional decor with its peppers and paintings on the walls. Your plate will be filled exclusively with fresh, perfectly cooked local produce!

Address: 2 avenue Reine Victoria, 64200 Biarritz

On the Port des Pêcheurs quay, Chez Albert offers wild fish and seafood coming straight from the Saint-Jean-de-Luz fish market. Enjoy it on the ocean front.

Where’s best to have a drink in Biarritz?

I suggest having a drink at the Hôtel du Palais and going in the afternoon to enjoy this luxurious location at an affordable price. In the evening, if you would like to enjoy a beautiful panorama over Biarritz, go for a cocktail on the rooftop of the Radisson Blue (1 carrefour Hélianthe).

Lovers of “rum arrangé” must check out Café Miguel (place du Port Vieux) to enjoy a suavely prepared cocktail amid the atypical jumble. As for the mojito lovers, they will be delighted with Blue Cargo, a quirky, picturesque villa on the beach just 15 minutes from Biarritz (plage d’ilbiarritz, Bidart).

If you are a rugby fan, you will love the great atmosphere of the Red Café (9 avenue du Maréchal Foch). Finally, if you’re into surfing, head to the Côte des Basques beach, a surfing hot spot, to get a drink at the Bar de la Côte, the Surfing or the Côte 57 (respectively 10, 9 and 7 boulevard du Prince de Galles).

What is there to take home?

Once you have tried the basque gastronomy, you surely won’t be able to resist taking some specialities home. You will find the best gâteau basque at Pariès! Go for their speciality, the mouchou (spelt “muxu” in basque), a cousin of the macaron, with a delicious almond flavour.

Address: 1 place Bellevue, 64200 Biarritz

For a tasty chorizo bread bun, head to Loubère. This bakery also offers a delicious epiphany cake.

Address: 11 rue Larralde, 64200 Biarritz

Chocolate lovers? You absolutely must go to Henriet to try, amongst other things, chocolate, the rocks of Biarritz, made with grilled almond flakes and candied orange. Address: place Georges Clemenceau, 64200 Biarritz

Finally, take a walk round Les Halles de Biarritz, where you are bound to find what you are looking for! Head to the Chailla stand to enjoy the best of Biarritz: foie gras, basque cheeses, hams, Espelette peppers... You just have to choose!

Address: rue des Halles, 64200 Biarritz
