The emission factors for long, medium and short distance carriers are derived from the use, manufacture and maintenance of the vehicles, i.e. on average 4 gCO2e/km/passenger for the INOUI, OUIGO and INTERCITES TGVs operating in France; 34 gCO2e/km/passenger for TERs; 12gCO2e/km/passenger for Transilien (Source: Réseau de transport d’électricités Rte de 2019 et fréquentations de 2019).

For a thermal car: Distance of the journey in kilometres x the CO2e emission factor of a passenger travelling one kilometre. The emission factor of a combustion engine car is linked to the use, manufacture and maintenance of the vehicle and is based on an occupancy of 2.2 passengers; i.e. an average of 105 gCO2e/km/passenger in France (Sources: Base Carbone® de l'ADEME)
