Did you know? The Pont du Gard is actually an aqueduct that was built by the Romans in the 1st century A.D. to provide water to the city of Nîmes, at the time a growing Roman colony!

Today, you can discover this 48 metre high, 275 metre long edifice from every angle.

Visit the inside of the bridge

Everything is designed for you to enjoy a thorough visit of the bridge. The site has a museum with models, postcards and videos that help you better understand Gallo-Roman civilisation, the construction of the aqueduct and the importance of the Pont du Gard.

Next, you can enjoy an open air exhibit that takes you through the garrigue with a guide book in hand to learn more about the effect of humans on the surrounding landscape. The natural wealth of the environment here is astounding! For the true history fanatics, there is also a multimedia library and a screening room where you can watch a 13-minute docufiction film about the history of the bridge.

Admire the view from the top

On guided visits, you can even go up to the top level, where the water once flowed along the top of the bridge. You can choose from different tickets: bridge + canal/bridge + museum/ruins of the aqueduct.

There is a stunning panoramic view of the gorges of the Gardon and the wild natural setting.
