Received a fine during your trip? Here are some tips on how to pay your fine, as well as information about how long you have to pay or appeal it.
How do I appeal a fine?
Within 3 months of the infraction, you can:
- file an appeal here
- or send a written appeal to SNCF Voyageurs at the address for the collection agency marked on the pay slip attached to the fine, or to the address marked on the reminder letter.
How do I pay a fine?
If you wish to pay online, visit our payment platform and enter:

You also have three other options for paying your fine :
- Pay by cheque to the order of SNCF-VOYAGEURS. Send your check by post to one of the centres that appears on the back of your written ticket or to the address marked on your reminder letter.
- Pay by phone by calling 09 48 220 000 (local call charges apply) from 8:15 am to 6:30 pm on Monday through Friday, except holidays.
- Pay by cash, bank card or cheque directly in a station, with your ticket.
How long do I have to pay?
Your fine must be paid within the legal limit of 3 months. Make sure you respect this deadline in order to avoid being taken to court.*
If you have not paid your fine within 3 months, the ticket will be passed on to the public prosecutor.
You will then owe an additional fine to the Public Treasury, ranging from €180 to €375.
If you have multiple unpaid fines, you can be charged with habitual fraud**, which is punishable by 6 months of prison and a €7500 fine.
*The violation is considered as an offer of a penal transaction, in accordance with articles 529 and s. of the criminal code.
*Someone is considered to have committed habitual fraud if they have been given more than 5 tickets in a 12-month period for travelling without a valid ticket, which did not result in a transaction in application of article 529-3 of the criminal code. If you show false proof of ID, the intentional declaration of a false address or false identity is punished by a €3750 fine.
