Take a stroll by the canals or in the cobbled lanes, in romantic squares or the famous flower market. Amsterdam is the ideal destination for a romantic spring weekend away!
What can you do there?
If you want to make like a local, I recommend hiring a bike to see the city. As you will see, the whole city is thought out to favour the cyclist, with cycle lanes everywhere. Why not hire a tandem? In addition, bikes allow you to take your time and wander, so you can forget the everyday stress of city living! You can also stop at specific spots which are worth the trouble, and find time for a kiss...
What else is unmissable in Amsterdam? A cruise on the canal! You can admire the colourful houses so typical of the city, which date from many different centuries. The best time to take in the canals has to be sunset!
For a drink, make for the romantic terrace Spanjer en van Twist, next to the water, which has nothing but tables for two. You will find it at the end of the road where the Museum of the House of Anne Frank is situated. (Leliegracht 60, 1015 DJ Amsterdam)
As regards going out, great places to visit aren’t lacking: there are secret designer bars, restaurants in quiet little corners, an Art Deco cinema... There are so many ways to spend a romantic weekend in Amsterdam...
Where to eat?
From dining one-on-one to low budget lunches, Amsterdam is perhaps not well known for its food culture but nevertheless you can eat really well there!
If you opt for a romantic dinner for two, Ctaste is a beautiful, original alternative: there you eat in total darkness! The most locally evocative place is Pont 13. It’s an old cargo ship transformed into a quirky restaurant, and is, of course, found on the canal!
If you prefer eating well without breaking the bank, head to Haringhandel, where you can eat herring any which way, and it’s delicious!
Which hotel should I choose?
Our favourite hotel of the moment is the College Hotel Restaurant, a charming, ideally situated hotel, a few yards from the city centre.
Very trendy, it has a lounge bar full of little corners and alcoves for drinking by the fireside. Love is in the air...
