Marseille, a melting pot of style, is a real source of inspiration, only 3 hours from Paris. Concept stores, retro bistros and organic soup breaks are all part of a day’s wandering in search of the latest hot spots.

Here are the top 5 on trend places to visit in Marseille:

  1. The concept store
  2. The organic cafe
  3. The second hand clothes shop
  4. A taste for burgers
  5. The bar

1. The concept store

Let’s start our trip at the Jogging concept store, a new and unusual boutique. This former butchers has been transformed into a fashion showcase, with new and vintage collections set among exposed concrete walls. From moccasins perched on a solid wood pedestal to the new “must have” bag hung on a butcher’s hook, this Marseille version of Colette is a little museum of carefully selected designer items (I love the café terrace at the back).

2. The organic cafe

It’s time to freshen up with an organic juice by Mr Charles, Marseille’s fresh new café! Choose from hot dishes and chilled juices. They concoct salads, sandwiches, soups and organic juices, all of which are fresh and homemade. We were enticed by their detox green juice and colourful decor, and left with a good, healthy fennel and apple mix for €3.50.

3. The second-hand clothes shop

There’s a perfect vibe for browsing at Egg, a stylish second-hand clothes shop. There’s no room for threadbare, old clothes here. Egg carefully selects pieces you will see nowhere else, for women, men and children.

4. A taste for burgers

It’s 14:30 and we’re hanging out at the Burger Banquet before it closes (16:00). This week’s house burger costs €15 and is served French-style. Many people think these are the best burgers in the city. With its industrial interior, this is a little slice of New York in the heart of Marseille.

5. The bar

And for our after-work drink? The Relève Bar manages to serve a neo-retro menu to clients who seem fresh out of their high chairs. This is a great hangout for thirty-somethings who appreciate good wine and good food.
